Professor Panula introduced a new conducting competition for young musicians in 2024, the Jorma Panula Minikapu Conducting Competition 4-7 September 2024. The competition is aimed at Finnish and foreign students in Finland and was organised at the same time as the international competition in Vaasa but is a few days shorter. Maestro Panula says the reason for this is to encourage young music students to learn orchestral conducting and to have the opportunity to perform in an earlier age. The competitors in Vaasa were able to attend the international competition rounds at the same time.
The age limit for applicants was 20 years, and 7 competitors aged 12-19 were selected for the competition. The competition orchestra was the Wasa Sinfonietta. The competition had its own jury, whose members were: Professor Atso Almila, as chairman, and conductors Jukka Iisakkila and Ville Mankkinen. The secretary of the jury was Milla Virta. The repertoire consisted of Mozart's Symphony No 36 in C, first movement Adagio - Allegro Spritoso and Jean Sibelius' Pelléas et Mèlisande, Op. 46, movements, I At the castle gate, III A Spring in the park and VII Entr´acte.

For the final on 7 September, the jury selected 4 contestants: Maximilian Fagerlund, Helena Kujala, Maximilian Leicher and Arijus Šereckis. After the decision at 21.15, the winners were announced as follows:
